Seeing the truth of a situation is not always easy.
After more than 30 years of studying metaphysics and serving as a Science of Mind Minister, I’ve learned that appearances rarely tell the whole story. What we think is “real” is often just the surface of something deeper.
We are raised inside other people’s beliefs — parents, teachers, religion, society.
By the time we reach adulthood, much of what we call “truth” is simply conditioning.
Metaphysics invites us to look beyond that conditioning and see with spiritual perception.
This is what I mean by going beyond positive thinking.
Positive thinking is helpful, but it only scratches the surface.
Spiritual perception asks us to look deeper — beyond race‑mind thinking, beyond fear, beyond appearances — and see the truth behind the situation.
A Teaching Scenario
Imagine a mother whose addiction leads her to neglect her child.
Child services intervene. She gets a second chance but continues the same destructive behavior.
Now imagine a loving relative takes the child and gives them a safe, nurturing home.
The child thrives.
You discover what happened.
You know the mother.
You know the situation.
You know the child is finally safe.
What do you do?
Do you report it because “it’s the right thing”?
Or do you remain silent because the child is finally receiving the love they deserve?
This is not about legal advice.
This is a teaching scenario — a reminder that life is not always as it appears.
Sometimes the deeper truth is not found in the surface facts, but in the spiritual outcome.
Metaphysics teaches us to look beyond appearances and ask:
What is really happening here?
What is the highest truth?
What possibility is trying to emerge?
The Importance of Spiritual Community
To see beyond appearances, we need support.
A spiritual community helps us stay grounded, centered, and open to higher possibilities.
When we surround ourselves with like‑minded people, our perception expands.
We begin to see the infinite possibilities of the universe — not just the surface story.
A Word from Dr. Norman Vincent Peale
Dr. Peale, author of The Power of Positive Thinking, reminds us that happiness is a choice.
He tells the story of a man who said:
“When I get up in the morning, I have two choices — to be happy or unhappy. I just choose to be happy.”
Peale’s message is simple:
Our thoughts shape our experience.
When we choose uplifting thoughts, we open the door to healing, clarity, and new possibilities.
The Deeper Message
Going beyond positive thinking means:
When we do this, life becomes richer, clearer, and more aligned with the truth of who we are.
If you’re new to metaphysics or want to understand the principles behind this teaching, you may want to read my page “What Is Metaphysics?” first. It explains the foundation of spiritual perception — the ability to see beyond appearances and into the deeper truth of any situation.
Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers,
the believers and the thinkers,
but most of all
surround yourself with those who see greatness within you,
even when you don’t see it yourself.
